Notes for Hester A. (Spouse 1)
"Hester Prather Fouts was born on a farm near Jeffersonville, Ind., August 15, 1836, and was called to her eternal reward October 19, 1912, aged 76 years, 2 months and 4 days.
She was "Aunt" Hester or "Mother" Fouts to almost all of Clark county, being one of those grand old pioneers whose sweet and sunny dispostion made a real friend of her every acquaintance. On December 1, 1857, she was married to the late John C. Fouts, a young man whose character and life was one among the best and most noble. To this union were born five children, Mrs. Lou Elsom, wife of Prof. Elsom, of New Albany, Mrs. Stella Fouts Murphy, of Morocco, Ira C., who resides on the old homestead, Elmer, whose beautiful home stands nearby, and Addie, who at the age of 18, was called by her Savior, in 1888 to be at rest...
She leaves besides the four children, one brother, Calvin W. Prather, Grand Secretary of the Masonic Lodge, whose home is Indianapolis, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren...
The funeral services were held at her late home Sunday afternoon, conducted by Mrs. Martha Jones. The interment was at the Fouts cemetry." Source: The New Washington Courier, New Washington, Ind., Oct. 15, 1912. p.4.
