Upon her husbands death she moved into the city of Wellsville, Kansas and in July, 1911 she moved to Baldwin City, Kansas to live with her son James.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church until 1899, at which time she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Wellsville.

Martha was the daughter of Gen. Wm & Martha Sharp (Patton) McIntire. She was raised on a farm located between Cherry Fork and Youngsville in Adams County, Ohio. Her parents were conductors on the Underground Railroad. Slaves that died during their transport were buried in parents yard (as the story has been passed down). Martha help her parents in the hiding of the runaways and learned to be quiet when bounty hunters were in the area. Most of the neighbors were relatives and were sympathetic to the cause. Martha married 1 Sep 1859, to James Preston Wasson, son of Thomas C. & Martha Patton (Campbell) Wasson. They had been neighbors all their lives. They had six children. After James returned home from the Civil War, they settled on her parents home place. James found the rewards for farming in Adams County, Ohio to be inadequate. In 1877, they moved to Douglas County, Kansas. In 1900, Martha, is widowed and living with her son James and his wife Alice in Franklin County, Kansas. In 1910, she is living alone in Franklin County, Kansas. Their children were: Cora Hester B May 1860, M Frank Wilson; Elnora "Nora" Jane, B Nov 1861, M John Tweed Patton; Martha Albertina "Tina", B 1866, M Samuel Clarence C.
