After the death of James Elvas in 1946 Elizabeth raised four children as a single parent working for Wellsville’s Dr. Naylor as a housekeeper and caring for an ailing Mrs. Naylor. She was later employed at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant in DeSota, KS for 12 years.
