Notes for Lola Maxine Head
Lola M. Sander, 91, of Sabetha, Kansas, formerly of Seneca, died on Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha.
Lola was born on July 7, 1922 to Glenn B. and Sara A. Buchmeier Head on a farm near Paxico, Kansas.  She attended high school in Wamego where she also completed her teaching certificate. 
Lola married Harold E. Sander on October 31, 1942 in Abilene, Texas.  Being a military wife she held various jobs, moving where the military sent her husband.  Once her husband was discharged from service, the couple moved to Alma, Kansas.  In 1948 they moved to Wellsville and then in 1954 to Seneca.  Lola went to work for Citizens State Bank (currently renamed to United Bank) on Main Street in Seneca on June 17, 1963.  She started as a teller, and eventually becoming an assistant vice president. In December of 1982, she was promoted to vice president.  After 21 years, she retired in July of 1984. In May 2007, Lola sold her home in Seneca and moved to the Apostolic Christian Retirement Village in Sabetha.
Lola was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Altar Society, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.  She enjoyed golfing, painting, ceramics and working in the yard.  She was a talented seamstress and quilter. 
She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on August 1, 1997; a son, Joseph A. Sander on June 3, 2000; and a sister, Ruth Stevenson.
She is survived by her son, Glenn "Frank" (Mary) Sander of Morrill; daughter-in-law, Mary Sander of Wamego; siblings, Opal Patton of Osage City and Ken (Eleanor) Head of Paola; six grandchildren, Christina (Paul) Wertenberger of Falls City, Nebraska, Jamie (Tim) Akin of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, Jill (Jim) Watt of Kansas City, Missouri, Kimberly (Ben) Strahm of Gardner, Kansas, Dawson Sander of Wamego and Elliot (Jennifer) Sander of Topeka; and 10 great-grandchildren. 
A rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Monday, August 5, at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be on 10 AM Tuesday, August 6, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Owned a filling station in Wellsville, KS. Worked at Sunflower Ordinance Plant, DeSota, KS. Had a Sears Catalog store in Seneca, KS and worked for the post office for a short time.

Received the Purple Heart in WWII. Served in the Army in Germany.
