James Elvas Patton served as a Private, U.S. Army, 329th Infantry, 83rd Division, during World War I, in Europe. He died of cancer at age 51 while his son Jerry was serving in World War II.
John Tweed Patton immigrated to the vicinity of Wellsville, Kansas in 1877, where he was a farmer. In 1911 he retired from farming and moved into the city of Wellsville where he was a practicing veterinarian for many years until failing health caused him to give up his practice.
