Sarah Emily’s sister, Known as Lulu

Mary L. Willis was born Mary Louisa "Lulu" Moore. Her father was Thomas Moore who's parents remain unknown. Her mother, Henrietta Prather, was widowed when Mary was young and she remarried to a widower, Lewis Tuttle. Mary Louisa married her own step brother, Wm. Henry Harrison Tuttle in 1866. They were married long enough to produce Anne Belle Tuttle and Arthur Henry or Henry Arthur Tuttle and then Wm. H H Tuttle died leaving Mary Louisa as a young widow. She next married Lorenzo Willis and went on to have a daughter, Clara Belle, and a son, Calvin with Mr. Willis.

He accidentally shot himself, on 18 December 1869, while on “Indian Nation” land in the Kansas territory. He died on 4 January 1870. William Tuttle went to his aid on 30 December 1869 and reached him on 3 January 1870. William returned with Henry’s body on 10 January 1870. He was buried 11 January 1870, in the Baldwin Cemetery, Baldwin City, Kansas.

William Henry Harrison was the son of Lewis Tuttle and Abigail Mariamna Willey and was born in Jeffersonville,Clark county, Indiana. He entered the Kentucky 1st Infantry Company F as a corporal and ended his service as a Sergent.

On 15 February 1866, Wm. Henry married Mary Louisa "Lulu" Moore who was his step sister. They were raised together from the time that his widowed father married her widowed mother. Together they had 2 children, Anna Belle Tuttle in 1868 and Henry Arthur Tuttle in August 1869.

Tragically, while traveling in "Indian Territory" in December 1869, Wm. Henry is reported to have accidentally shot himself. He lived for some weeks afterward and his brother, Lewis, traveled to help him. Lewis Tuttle arrived at Wm. Henry's side on January 3, 1870, and Wm. Henry died the next day.

The US government purchased grave markers for many Union Civil War veterans and did so for a Sgt. W. Henry Tuttle who records show died 4 January 1870. He is listed in the record as serving in the Kentucky 1st Infantry. The records say he was buried in Baldwin Cemetery. His grave marker is currently standing in Oak Hill Cemetery. Local records have a 1920's date as William Henry's date of death. Persons researching the Tuttle family in this county believe that the grave stone was moved in the 1920's so that William Henry would be with the rest of his family who died locally. Somehow the move date was recorded as his original burial date.
